Jacquemus SS21: Diversidad y frescura

Hi, everyone! After months in lockdown and after not seeing any new collections, this week has had all of us fashion lovers very excited about all the amazing things that have been happening. One of the most anticipated was undoubtedly the Jacquemus show that was presented today in France.

Let’s remember that last year it was announced that the brand would reduce its annual shows from 6 to 2 that´s why the industry always receives with a lot of emotion each Jacquemus presentation. Today, he did a wonderful job and impressed us with his magic once again. The designer also shared today that he is convinced that there is nothing that can replace the conventional fashion show format.

Simon Porte Jacquemus’ fashion shows always have an element that makes us all go crazy. Whether it’s with a spectacular location (like the lavender fields for his SS20 collection) or including his little cousin in the line-up of models for his shows, the young designer always manages to deliver an emotional show. In each of his projects he manages to capture his essence and personality to perfection.

Yesterday the designer presented his show “L’Amour”. It took place in a spectacular wheat field outside Paris and presented the spring-summer 21 collections for both Menswear and Womenswear. Jacquemus is the first French brand to hold a live show after the enforced lockdown in France due to Coronavirus pandemic, following the example of Etro and Dolce & Gabanna, who did it yesterday in Milan. The 100 guests received by the firm were strategically seated to respect social distancing measures.

The 56 looks in the collection were a perfect representation of the brand’s distinctive DNA. In addition, the color palette that was used for the garments worked perfectly and created a singular harmony with the location. A detail that we loved is that looks 42 and 46 had beaded work that look like the wheat of the location. We also saw some very simple floral prints in pastel hues.

All the looks were complemented with pretty golden jewelry and incredible leather accessories. The famous Chiquito bag (another of Jacquemus’ great hits) had an appearance with what seems to be another variation of this item that put the brand on everyone’s lips two years ago.

"As an idea for this collection, L’Amour began as something different. I imagined people gathered together celebrating love. Alexander Ekman’s choreography of wheat tossed passionately through the air. Emir Kursturica’s film, Time of the Gypsies with its enchanting realism. These scenes of ceremony large and small. But what’s so beautiful about L’Amour is how it can endure—sometimes even grow stronger—in the absence of people being together. Not long after my team was separated from each other, we were all in our homes feeling the desire to work, and a new vision of the collection emerged. We became a human chain, every step of the creative process executed with love. In fact, every decision I make concerning JACQUEMUS is motivated first by love and common sense. It’s why we shifted to a more sustainable rhythm last year, with two shows combining menswear and womenswear, held in January and June. This decision ended up saving us this season, since we had received all our fabric orders ahead of the confinement. Deciding to go ahead with our usual collection schedule and with a show is at the heart of our visual identity, our commercial strategy. With this smaller collection, presented mainly to our family and friends, we bring our interior worlds out into the open, interpreting the humble fabrics and objects we live with that have their own poems to tell. Within the home, L’Amour reveals itself in small wonders. Separate but collectively, we realized that the home is a place of endless inspiration. These impressions are what I wanted to recreate in this setting today, where we have been fully sensitive to the circumstances. My team has put in an enormous effort these last few months, and I am so grateful that we arrived here, that we are gathered together in the end. For me, it is important for people to see that a true celebration of L’Amour is universal." Simon

The young designer shared that, for him, this collection is nothing more than a celebration of the love and the collaborative spirit that exists in his team who worked hard during lockdown to be able to carry out the production and presentation of these two collections.

In the model line-up we saw a cast that undoubtedly celebrates the diversity and inclusion that is so needed in the industry at this time. Models like Nora Attal, Adut Akech, Jill Kortleve, Mica Argañaraz and Mika Schneider brought the newest designs of this young and very talented designer to life.
