Sewing a seed ~ Inside the atelier, like fronds frozen in time, crystalline filaments sprout from the heart of the dress. Portraying delicate new life, black seed-like crystals punctuate the tip of each stamen like strand. The seemingly simple seed is the embodiment of life and the potential that comes with it. This collaboration is the seed of a new beginning and a new collection that we are creating now. Iris van Herpen spoke with Miles Socha and Joelle Diderich @WWD about her newest creation ‘Transmotion’.

It has appliqués that symbolize seeds connected to long stems that are connected to a large central piece that represents some branches. It’s a very Van Herpen-like flower.

Above all the design we can find some very fragile transparent flowers that create a sculptural silhouette. The designer shared that she decided that the most important part of the design should be concentrated in the center of the body because for her life begins there.

The dress that talks about the origin of the human being and its roots also seeks to emphasize the importance that we as human beings should reconnect with our roots in order to truly reflect on what brought us to this complicated moment in time.

Something very interesting that we can see in the dress is that we cannot really tell which is the front and which is the back of the dress.

Inside the atelier ~ @VogueMagazine captured the delicate making-of the ‘Transmotion’ dress beautifully alongside an interview with Iris van Herpen by Laird Borrelli-Persson (@the_lbp). “There is a strong contrast between the softness of the plissé and the graphic elements of the branching; the black and white, in the Transmotion dress. There is always a contrast between elements in my work, whether it’s [between] nature and technology or craftsmanship and innovation. I think that’s also [part] of this work, but it’s very much focused on the element of growth, representing our transition into new realms.” To read the full article and see the ‘Transmotion’ film ~ link in bio Photography: @MarlenaWaldthausen for @VogueMagazine #irisvanherpen #couture #parisfashionweek #vogue #transmotion
